Society of mathematicians, physicists and astronomers of Slovenia

The society of mathematicians, physicists and astronomers of Slovenia (DMFA Slovenije) is a non-profit membership organization whose aim is to advance and diffuse the knowledge of mathematicians, physicists and astronomers at all levels in education and research. It organizes competitions and scientific meetings, outreach activities, promotes the cause of mathematics, physics and astronomy as well as science in general and is involved in diverse international activities.

The society includes members in educational institutions and academia, national laboratories and industry in Slovenia as well as abroad.

The society was founded in 1949 by Josip Plemelj, a world-renowned mathematician and founding Rector of the University of Ljubljana (1919). On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its founding, the society received the Silver medal of honour in 2019. The honour was bestowed to the acting President of the society by the President of the Republic of Slovenia.
